Hi, I’m Natali Rein
A cognitive narratologist at heart, a researcher and writer by profession.
I live at the intersection of storytelling and science, blending narrative craft with deep insight into how people think, feel, and engage with interactive media. My academic background – a B.A. and M.A. in Literature with a focus on cognitive narratology – led me to explore how stories in video games evoke emotion, create immersion, and guide decision-making.
From that foundation, I’ve developed two professional identities:
User Researcher
Where feeling meets function.
In this role, I apply cognitive principles to understand how players interact with games – what delights them, what frustrates them, and what keeps them engaged. My work bridges UX research, player psychology, and design insight to help teams build better, more meaningful games.
Writer & Narrative Designer
Where story meets science.
With a storyteller’s instinct and a designer’s mindset, I craft emotionally resonant narratives that fit seamlessly into interactive experiences. I’ve worked as a narrative designer and indie author, always chasing that magical moment when a story becomes playable.
Since its launch in 2018, this website has evolved from a platform to share my work as a User Researcher into an archive of personal and professional development. Initially focused on video games, pop culture, theory, and my own publications, it now reflects a broader range of experiences and insights. My interests in Narratology, Games User Research (GUR), neuropsychology, and user-centric design have deepened and expanded significantly over time.
Thank you for visiting. I hope you find inspiration and valuable knowledge here. Let’s collaborate to create exceptional gaming experiences.
I offer workshops and lectures for universities and companies on neuropsychology and user experience. If you have a specific interest within the broad field of UX, please contact me, and we can tailor a topic that suits your needs best.
